NLTA Series Phase Converters

The NLTA Series adds Phoenix's AutoLink automatic voltage balancing system to the standard NLT platform. Converting 230V single-phase to 460V three-phase, the AutoLink system continuously adjusts capacitor switching to maintain voltage balance as your load changes — critical for variable and hard-starting loads.

What AutoLink solves

Standard rotary phase converters use a fixed capacitor bank optimized for a specific load. When the actual load varies significantly — as it does with compressors, HVAC equipment, or shops running multiple machines — voltage balance can degrade. AutoLink monitors the output in real-time and switches capacitors in and out automatically to maintain balance at any load point.

Who needs NLTA?

How AutoLink Works

The AutoLink system uses a microcontroller to continuously monitor the three-phase output voltages. As load increases or decreases, it switches additional capacitors in parallel or removes them from the circuit — all in milliseconds. The result is consistent voltage balance across a wide load range.

NLTA vs NLT

Choose NLTA over NLT when:

  • Your load varies by more than 30% during operation
  • You're running hard-starting loads like compressors or HVAC
  • You'll eventually add more equipment and want room to grow

Sizing NLTA for variable and hard-start loads

Use the 2.5× multiplier for hard-starting 460V loads. AutoLink handles the balance — you still need to size by HP.

Multiple Machine Example

Shop with: 20 HP 460V compressor + 10 HP 460V lathe + 5 HP 460V drill press

  • Compressor: 20 × 2.5 = 50 HP
  • Lathe (next largest): 10 × 0.5 = 5 HP added
  • Drill press: 5 × 0.5 = 2.5 HP added
  • Total: 57.5 HP → Choose GP60NLTA

Rule: Full multiplier for largest, half for each additional machine running simultaneously.
