Applications

Load-specific sizing notes and considerations for the most common uses of rotary phase converters.

Machine Shops

Lathes, mills, grinders, and surface grinders. Multiple simultaneous starts are common — size for the largest motor with 2× multiplier.

CNC Machines

CNC mills and lathes with VFDs need stable voltage balance. PL series recommended for sensitive drives. Check VFD manual for phase imbalance tolerance.

Air Compressors

Compressors start under load — use 2.5× multiplier. A 10 HP compressor needs a GP25NL minimum.

Dust Collectors

High inrush at startup. Use 3× multiplier. A 5 HP collector needs a GP15NL minimum.

HVAC / Chillers

Large chiller compressors often specify 460V. Use NLT/PLT series. Confirm motor nameplate before sizing.

Agricultural / Farm

Grain augers, irrigation pumps, feed conveyors. Often far from utility — verify voltage drop over long runs.

Woodworking

Wide belt sanders, drum sanders, shapers. Standard 2× multiplier applies. Low starting torque loads.

Welding / Fabrication

Three-phase MIG welders and plasma tables. Check whether the welder is truly 3-phase input or single-phase with 3-phase for the wire feed only.
